Abies firma (Momi Fir)
Also known as: Japanese Fir
Native: South Japan
Location: Grown in collections and for ornament in large gardens.
Foliage is bright green above, silver below and has a distinct leathery feel to it. The needles are dark green and conspicuously tapering towards the base, with two sharp points at their tips.
Pollen and Seed Cones
Male cones shed pollen at the end of April. Females are 25mm long developing into mature cones.
Mature cones are 8cm long.
