Larix potaninii (Tibetan Larch)
Native: Western China, Tibet
Location: Cultivated in botanical collections.
Foliage is on rather stout shoots and needles are almost four-sided with two bands of white on lower side. They have a strong distinctive smell when crushed.
Pollen and Seed Cones
Cones open in March, males emerging green and turning yellow when pollen is shed; females are about 15mm long, pink and green.
Mature cones are about 5cm long with shiny brown scales and long bracts pointing about 5mm out above them.
