Populus x canadensis 'Robusta'
Location: Widely planted in Britain for shelter, screening, ornament and timber.
This is a vigorous, male clone, which arose in France at the end of the 19th Century.
Leaves are also a fine sight in spring, as they unfold a bronzy colour, turning to blue-green through the summer.
Flowers are bright red about 6cm long and open in March.
