Populus lasiocarpa (Chinese Necklace Poplar)
Native: Central China
Location: Cultivated for interest in collections and large gardens.
Leaves are remarkably large, 25cm or even more. They usually. have thick red stems.
Flowers open in late April or May, males reddish up to about 10cm in length, females yellowish-green about 10cm long.
Many trees have catkins with the lower, stalked end male and the top either female or bisexual. Fruiting catkins may reach about 20cm and release their cottony seeds in July.
