Native: China, Manchuria and Korea
Location: Grown with its numerous cultivated varieties in Europe and North America.
Leaves are dark green on both sides and have no smell when crushed.
Pollen and Seed Cones
Cones open in March, males dark yellow, females dull bluish-green about 1mm.
Mature cones about 18mm across, usually with six hooked scales. They ripen from bluish-green to brown in the autumn, opening to release winged seeds.
