Native: Asia Minor, Europe, including south-east England.
Location: Cultivated in europe and N. America as a hedge, and park or street tree.
Leaves colour bright yellow in the autumn.
Flowers open in March, the male catkins 3.7cm long, the females smaller emerging from the tips of growing shoots. Fruiting catkins may be 7.5cm long and turn brown in November.
