Native: China

Location: Cultivated for fruit in the Far East and Italy for ornament in gardens and collections in the north of Europe.

Height 12m, but may be twice as tall in warm climates.


Leaves are dark shiny green.


Diospyros lotus

Flowers open in July; males are in clusters in leaf axils, females look similar but single and on a separate tree. Each flower is about 0.6cm across.


Diospyros lotus

Fruit is 1.2-2cm wide, ripening yellow to purple.
