Coniferous tree, sometimes bushy or slender, drooping tree. Smaller in South America.

Foliage

Leaves are flat, hard and curved with a sharp tip. They have two whitish bands on the underside.

Pollen and Seed Cones

Saxegothaea conspicua

Cones open in May, males deep pinkish purple, about 2mm long; females on the same tree, pale blue-green and developing into mature cones.

Mature Cones

Mature cones are the same colour as the female cones, pale blue-green, about 12mm long.
