Foliage

Leaves are larger than Japanese Sewartia (Stewartia pseudocamellia) are bright green in both surfaces. They have red hairy stems and colour red and crimson in the autumn.

Flowers

Stewartia sinensis

Fragrant flowers open in late July and are about 3.7-5cm across and their buds are surrounded by a five-lobed bract, each lobe tinged red at the tip.
