Leaves are larger than on Thuja species, dark green and glossy above with two white bands on underside.

Cones open in late April or May, males dark blackish green, females bluish green, both about 1mm long.

Mature Cones

Thujopsis dolabrata

Mature cones are 12mm to 18mm long, with 6-10 scales, ripening to dark bluish brown from bluish green, and opening to release seeds.
